Maritime Run 2017
Just keep running. This is the tag line of Kementerian Pengangkutan Malaysia ( Ministry of Transport Malaysia) during the first Maritime Run last 10 December 2017 at Precinct 4, Putrajaya.
The event was graced by thousands of running enthusiasts all over Malaysia and even runners from other counties. There were three categories: 21-kilometre or half marathon; 10-kilometre; and 5-kilometre fun run. It was officiated by Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Ministry of Transport.
In line with this event, Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn. Berhad sent and gave its greatest support to all 44 participants ( 17 staff and 27 students) who departed ALAM as early as 3 o'clock in the morning to be able to meet the flag off time for 21-km at 0530 hrs, 10-km at 0630 hrs and 5-km at 0700 hrs, accordingly.
This was my first official half marathon (21.097 kilometres) in Malaysia finished with the time of 2 hours 28 minutes and 43 seconds achieving my sub 2.5 target ( sub 2.5 means your finishing time is below 2 hours and 30 minutes).
There was also one staff who ran the same distance with me, Mr. Roslan Sulaiman. He was able to beat his previous personal record for half marathon, finishing 30 minutes faster than his previous personal best.
Another thing that made me happy aside from finishing the distance within my target is that, one of my friends, Ranet Elvis, was able to found some interest in running. She ran 5 kilometres for a start. From then, I was looking forward for her to have more runs and run longer distance.
After the event, I, together with some ALAM staff and cadets decided to donate blood. Since my vital sign are all okay and I am qualified to do so, I never hesitate to proceed with it. This thing is already my pledge to do at least once or twice a year. Apart from that, we went to a nearby mall and find some foods to satisfy our hungry tummy.
And that's how I spent almost half day of 10 December 2017. I was indeed happy for I got a chance to run again after 16 months of being off season from any running event.
